Shaving Bumps
Shaving bumps, or Pseudo-follicuitis, are similar to active acne in that they are caused by an inflammation of the hair follicles normally brought on by shaving, waxing or plucking. The condition is fairly common, especially for people with thick curly hair.
The problem results when the curly hair grows back into the skin, causing inflammation and a foreign body reaction. Over time, the trapped hairs can cause keloidal scarring which looks like hard bumps across the surface of the skin.
Patients are encouraged to complete a course of treatments for maximum results, and in some cases, occasional treatments to keep the shaving bumps at bay.
